39/1: Correspondence and papers relating to Thomas B. Barlow’s Malaysian visits 1968 Comprising:

  • itinerary of his visit, including Australia (visiting farms offered for sale), (19 JAN – 23 FEB);
  • with correspondence with Sir John D. Barlow whilst visiting Malaysia, including outbreak of foot and mouth disease near Bradwall estate, Sandbach, Cheshire and slaughter measures undertaken;
  • correspondence with John K. Barlow and C. E. Hindson, Thomas Barlow & Bro., London, covering plantation estate matters;
  • letters to Sir Claude Fenner regarding exemption granted to Gordon H. Lang, chairman, Barlow Boustead Estates Agency Ltd, from the rubber industry Malaysianisation rules (FEB);

  • itinerary for his trip including Australia (24 JAN – 22 FEB);
  • correspondence with Sir John D. Barlow, whilst visiting Malaysia including various share transactions, notably purchase of increased holding of stocks in Dindings Rubber Estates Ltd, purchase offer for the Klabang estate;
  • correspondence with John K. Barlow and C. E. Hindson, Thomas Barlow & Bro., London, concerning agency business and estate management, workings of the Rubber Growers’ Association Malaysia sub-committee;
  • note by Hindson of Thomas B. Barlow’s telephone call from Perth notifying of purchase of 3,400 acre sheep farm at Onrurup, near Albany (10 FEB);
  • papers relating to his Malaysia trip including various notes, maps of the British Solomon Isles, Sungei Rengam and Kalumpong estates;
  • draft letter to Gordon H. Lang setting out his comments on estate visits etc., miscellaneous papers.

  • itinerary for his trip including Australia (18 NOV – 3 DEC) and attendance at a Palm Oil conference, including photographs (6-8 NOV);
  • correspondence whilst in Malaysia with C.E. Hindson, Thomas Barlow & Bro., London, including discussions over establishment of a Malaysian Palm Oil Association to replace the existing selling pool arrangements;
  • correspondence with Henry S. Barlow including his move to Kuala Lumpur to train as successor to Gordon H. Lang, chairman, Barlow Boustead Estates Agency Ltd;
  • letter to Sir Claude Fenner concerning the same (3 NOV);
  • correspondence with J. Walton, Lever’s Pacific Plantations Pty. Ltd, British Solomon Islands (SEP – DEC);
