Wartime diary of William ‘Bill’ Howe, M.C. detailing his evacuation from Burma [Myanmar] ahead of the Japanese invasion of 1942. the diary extract begins in May 1942. Hi sroute took him through the Chaukan Pass and the diary describes the deperate conditions his group encountered before meeting Gyles Mackrell’s group of tea planters from India.
