The memoir is a graphic, often amusing, account of life, work and social happenings in Ceylon during the last years of British rule and the first decade of independence. The author held a variety of posts as tea planter; assistant in a mercantile agency; manager of a shipping agency in Colombo; manager of an up-country transport concern and of an up-country bank.
