Lt. Col. W.L. Hailes

Journal of an officer describing service in Mesopotamia 1914-19, then in India 1920 – frontier duty etc., with a very vivid account of the army life in India and the role it played in the administration. Describes time spent in Delhi, Waziristan, Jammu, Kashmir, Bombay and Goa. Also copies of purwanas and letters of recommendation written for Indians who remained loyal to the British in the 1857 uprising.
